5 Essential Feng Shui Tips for Optimal Sleep

8/29/2021

Are you having issues with sleep? Do you often wake up during the night and aren’t sure why? Do you ever feel like you get enough sleep but you still wake up feeling exhausted? Do you find yourself tossing and turning all night, unable to drift off into a deep and restful sleep? If so, you’re not alone. Many people suffer from poor quality sleep and never wake up feeling fully rested.

Getting a good night's sleep is one of the most important habits for living a healthy and productive life. However, for many of us, it can be a challenge to get the quality rest that we need. Not only can it leave us feeling exhausted and unable to focus, but it can also cause changes in our mood and energy levels.

The energy in your bedroom could be the culprit, creating a huge impact on your sleep and your overall well being. Thankfully, a few simple changes using the feng shui changes can help you create a sanctuary, achieve optimal sleep and get a better night's rest. Read on for 5 easy feng shui tips to help you get the best sleep possible tonight.

5 Essential Feng Shui Tips for Optimal Sleep

1. Position your bed in the command position

When it comes to creating a peaceful, tranquil, and secure environment, the most important feng shui principle is to place your bed in the command position. It's a strategic placement of the bed which induces a feeling of safety and peace. It gives you a sense of control and make you feel secure, which helps you relax. In the command position, the head of your bed is positioned against a solid wall and you have a view of the door without being right in front of the door. I wrote an entire blog post devoted to the command position. You can learn more about this concept here.

2. Invest in a solid headboard

Getting a good night's sleep is essential for a healthy lifestyle, and the best way to guarantee a peaceful rest is to invest in a sturdy headboard. Again, when it comes to stability and security, the importance of having the right headboard cannot be overlooked. While the type of headboard you choose is mainly based on individual preference and design style, it is essential to make sure it is solid. Whether you opt for a wooden or upholstered headboard, a solid one will help you to feel grounded and secure. Avoid a headboard with bars, like the old-fashioned metal ones your grandmother had, as the qi goes right through it, preventing the stability you need to for restful sleep.

3. No mirrors in the bedroom

It's a long-held belief that mirrors should be avoided in the bedroom, but why? Is it really as bad as everyone says? The truth is, mirrors can be both helpful and harmful when it comes to feng shui. While mirrors can be used to enhance the qi (energy) in a room, they can be disruptive when placed in a bedroom so it's best to keep them out of your room if you want a good night's sleep. This is because mirrors bounce off qi and can create an environment that is too active for a restful night’s sleep. If you have mirrors that reflect the bed, cover them up when you're sleeping or remove them. If you have mirrors in other areas of the bedroom, just make sure they're not reflecting light or energy towards the bed.

4. Remove the electronics

Remove all of the electronics from your bedroom. This means no more watching Netflix in bed or scrolling through Instagram on your phone before dozing off. EMFs from the TV and blue light from your phone or laptop can really wreak havoc on your sleep patterns. The only things that should be plugged in are your light sources, such as table lamps or a floor lamp. If you feel like you absolutely need a TV in your room, you can cover it with a blanket when you're not using it or tuck it away in a cabinet. Having a good night's sleep is essential for your health, but if you have electronics in your bedroom, it can be difficult to get the rest you need. Create a healthy, clutter-free environment by removing all of the electronics from your bedroom. In place of having electronics in your bedroom, try to create a relaxing sleep space with the focus on restorative sleep.

5. Clear out the space under your bed

One of the most commonly overlooked areas of the bedroom is under the bed. According to the principles of feng shui, the energy, or qi, in your bedroom should be able to flow freely in order to create a calm, soothing environment that supports restful sleep, including under the bed. If too many items are stored under your bed, the energy can't flow smoothly, disrupting the calming atmosphere necessary for a good night's rest. A good feng shui tip for optimizing sleep is to declutter the space under your bed.  This will ensure that qi flows smoothly throughout the entire bedroom, creating a calm and soothing atmosphere for restful sleep. If you absolutely need to store things under the bed, use this space to store soft items like blankets or out of season clothing.

Quality sleep is one of the most important things when it comes to your overall health and well-being. We're all busy with careers, families and a whole host of other responsibilities but you owe it to yourself to get a night's rest. Optimal sleep is essential for having the energy to do all the things we want to do in our lives. If you're having trouble sleeping or just want to start off your day feeling refreshed, why not give these simple feng shui tips a try before you go to bed tonight?
