Your master bedroom is one of the most important areas in your home because it’s the one room that you spent a lot of time in. It’s a place for rest and romance, yet have you ever considered that your bedroom could be damaging your health and your relationships?
Well, look no further than your bedroom to fix those issues.. Just a few simple changes can make all the difference. Feng shui your bedroom for optimal sleepLet’s start with how to optimize your sleep. Below are some feng shui tips that will let you feel well rested in the morning.
The first and most important thing is to put your bed in the command position. I wrote a blog about the command position that you can link to here. Here’s the key. You need to make sure that the head of the bed is up against a solid wall, with a direct line of sight to the door without being directly in with the door. Get yourself a solid headboard. It doesn’t matter if it’s wood or if it’s upholstered. Just make sure it’s solid, not one with bars (Remember those old metal ones that your grandma had on the farm?! Don't use those.). No mirrors in the bedroom. Mirrors are great to use in feng shui when they’re positioned properly. The thing with mirrors is that chi bounces off mirrors. So if you want to enhance the chi in a room, position a mirror to reflect a beautiful outdoor view. However, when mirrors are placed in a bedroom, the chi is bounced around the room making the energy too active for a good night’s rest. Also when a mirror is placed in a master bedroom, that energy can invite a third party into the relationship, particularly when the bed is visible in the mirror. So if you don’t want your spouse having an affair, remove the mirror! Remove ALL of the electronics in your bedroom. That means no more watching Netflix in bed and no more scrolling through Instagram on your phone before dozing off. The only things you should have that plug in are your light sources, like table lamps or a floor lamp. If you absolutely feel like you need a TV in your room, cover it up when you’re not using it by putting it in a cabinet where you can close the doors or by covering it with a blanket. Declutter under your bed. Chi needs to flow smoothly through your bedroom especially while you’re asleep. If there are things stuffed under the bed, the chi gets stuck and isn’t able to create a calm soothing environment for you to get enough quality rest. Quality sleep is one of the most important things when it comes to your overall health and well-being, We're all busy with careers, families and a whole host of other responsibilities. You owe it to yourself to get a night's rest. In feng shui, there are a few key areas of your home that need to be addressed before you do anything else. The most important areas are your kitchen, your master bedroom and your entrance. Today we're going to focus on the bedroom, more specifically the bed. In your bedroom, the most important thing to consider is where your bed is placed. The best place for your bed is in the command position. So, what the heck is the command position? Well, let me show you. The command position is when your furniture is placed facing the entrance to the room. The command position allows you to feel safe and secure. Nobody is going to sneak up on you or scare the crap out of you when they walk in the door. The command position also applies to your stove and to the seating arrangements in your living room. For example, in the living room, you want to have the furniture placed in a way where people don't need to turn around to see who might be coming in the room. When you're in bed, you want to feel safe, cozy and secure. The last thing you want is to have a feeling that someone could walk into your room unannounced!! In the bedroom, when you’re lying in bed, you want to have sight of the door without having the bed directly in line with the door. When the bed is directly in line with the door, that is called the coffin position in Feng Shui because dead people are removed feet first! Another consideration is that you should try to make sure there is a solid wall behind the top of the bed. The image on the left shows a bed that is not in the command position. Notice how the bed is directly in line with the door and there is also a window right behind the head of the bed? The energy that is coming into that room is coming in through the door and going right over the bed and out the window. There is no flow of energy in the room and this arrangement will make the people sleeping in that bed feel very uneasy and overwhelmed, leading to some sleepless nights. The image on the right shows a bed in the command position. The people sleeping in the bed have a sight line to the door without being directly in line with it. Even though the windows are behind the bed, there is a solid wall between them that the head of the bed is against. Adding floor to ceiling drapes on the windows and a large headboard will alleviate any residual energy escaping out the windows. There may be times when there is no possible way to position your bed in a command position, such as when a room has a lot of windows, the bedroom has large double doors leading into the room, or the room is so small that there is only place in the room that the bed will fit. If you physically cannot put your bed in the command position, there are things you can do to remedy that. For example, if you cannot avoid facing the door, place something in between your bed and the door as a barrier, such as a large footboard, a bench or a room divider. If there is no solid wall behind your bed, invest in a large, solid headboard and hang window coverings such as drapes or blinds on any of the windows that are behind the bed. The command position also applies to the position of your stove, the seating areas in your living areas and your desk. The idea is that you never want your back facing a door and you don’t want to have to turn around to see who is coming in the room. I'll go into those situations in another post but for today, go move your bed. You'll get a much better sleep tonight!
Want to attract a new partner into your life? I got you covered!! In feng shui, the relationship area is in the far right corner of your home. Use the bagua to find out where it is in your house. That room or area of your home, along with your master bedroom are going to be the main areas that you work on to attract that perfect partner. Tip #1: Before you even start implementing feng shui into your space, get really clear on what it is that you want to attract. Set your intention and know what you want. Journal about what you want in a partner and in a relationship. When you're clear on the qualities you want in your future partner, write them on a piece of paper and tuck it away in a drawer in the relationships area of your home. Tip #2: The love and relationship area is represented by the earth element so add in some grounding elements such as marble tables, terra cotta pots or clay figurines. This will ensure that your relationship is stable and secure. Tip #3: Add fire for passion. As fire burns, it turns to ash which returns to the earth. Since the relationships area is an earth element, adding small amounts of fire can really help bring some passion to your life. Add some candles or if you have a fireplace in that area, use it! Tip #4: Passion is also represented by the colour red so incorporate that colour into your space. But passion is not the only love goal that you may have. Attracting a loving partner is more than just having a hot sex life!! Use colours like pink, peach, and earth tones alongside the red to attract the love and romance as well. Tip #5: Do things in pairs. If you’re trying to attract a partner, make the space a reminder of that by adding things in pairs. Get rid of any art that feels lonely or sad. Replace it with something that shows a couple in a passionate or loving embrace. If your relationship area is in the bedroom, add a pair of nightstands, a pair of lamps and make sure you have 2 pillows on the bed. Tip #6: Regardless of what room your relationship area falls into, you'll also want to make some adjustments to your master bedroom. First, clear out all of the clutter that is in your room. Go through the drawers and closets and clean it all out. Donate the stuff you no longer need. Symbolically and literally make room for your potential partner. If your drawers and closets are stuffed and overflowing, there is not room for anyone to come into your life. Tip #7: Make sure your bed is in the command position and move the bed away from the wall to allow the other person to get in and out. The bed should allow both partners equal space on either side of the bed. Tip #8: No mirrors. Mirrors are not usually considered good feng shui in a bedroom but when it comes to relationships, they really don't belong in the bedroom. Mirrors will bring in the energy of another person into the relationship especially if you can see the bed in the mirror. The last thing you want is a third person in your relationship!! Try these tips to give your love life a boost. The love of your life may be just around the corner. |
