Embrace the Energy of Fall - How to Tap Into the Abundant Energy of the Season

10/21/2021

When the days start to get cooler and the leaves start to change color, you know that fall is in the air! The beauty of the season is accompanied by all of the activities that come with it. From cable-knit sweaters and pumpkin spice everything to picking apples and pumpkins, fall brings a special kind of joy. But it's also the season of reaping the rewards of all the hard work you've done in the spring and summer months.

Fall is such an exciting and inspiring time of year. The crisp air, the vibrant colors, and the promise of a fresh start all come together to create a unique energy that is full of potential and possibility. Using the principles of Feng Shui, you can harness this energy to create the life you want for yourself. In this blog post, we'll explore how you can embrace the energy of fall and use Feng Shui to make this season the best one yet!

Growing up, I heard many stories about life on the farm. My mom was raised on one in Southern Ontario, and her parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were all farmers. I often heard about all of the activities that happened in the fall, such as my grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle hard at work in the fields and my grandmother, mom, and great-aunts canning and storing the fruits and veggies. I also heard stories about my great-grandparents collecting the produce the "old-fashioned" way (no fancy machines back then!) and cutting cords of wood to keep the wood stove running in the winter. For me, fall is a season of preparation - just like gathering the harvest. It is the ideal time to draw energy from the yang season of summer.

It’s also one of the most beautiful and vibrant times of year. By taking advantage of the energy of autumn using feng shui principles, we can create a space that intensifies the positive energy of the season that helps keep us on track with our goals, boosts our creativity, and strengthens mental clarity.  The following 12 practical tips will help you create an environment that takes advantage of the transition energy of fall.

Feng Shui Your Home for Abundance

1. Decorate with pumpkins, gourds and nuts

Fall is a season of abundance, with plentiful food being harvested. In feng shui, pumpkins are seen as lucky charms that represent the ability to manifest more wealth, attract riches and family fortune, as well as serving as protection against negative energy. Decorate your home with pumpkins, gourds, apples, and other items found in nature. From pine cones and nuts, to branches and leaves, you can find everything you need right outside your door to create some truly beautiful and unique decor to bring in the energy of the fall.

2. Place a bowl of apples on the table.

The kitchen or dining room table is the heart of the home. It is a place where family and friends gather together to make memories. One of the most meaningful and powerful ways to show that your table is always ready and available for your loved ones is to place a bowl of apples on it. Apples symbolize that your table is never empty, and that you are always ready to welcome another person in. A bowl of apples can set the tone for a warm and inviting environment, and can be a reminder of how lucky we are to have a home that is filled with friends, family, and joy. Plus, there’s the added bonus of being able to enjoy the fresh apples too!

3. Hang a metal wind chime outside your door

Picture
Hanging a metal wind chime at the entrance to your home or outside your front door is an ancient custom that is believed to bring good luck and positive energy to the people living in the home. Not only does the chime provide a beautiful and peaceful sound to your entrance, but it is also thought to attract beneficial opportunities to the home. Placing a metal wind chime in your entrance or outside your front door can draw in positive opportunities and bring harmony and balance through the metal element.

4. Enhance the feng shui metal energy

When decorating your home for fall, the best colors to use are those associated with the metal element, such as white, grey, and silver. The metal element is a cool, yin element, associated with clarity and creativity. To enhance your clarity, focus and creativity, add decor items to your home that have metallic finishes, reflective surfaces and round shapes. Enhancing the metal element is an excellent way to bring a feeling of peace and tranquility to your home.

5. Use earth colors for grounding

Earth colors, such as yellow, brown, and terracotta, are a great way to bring a grounding, comforting energy to your home. Not only do these colors provide a warm, inviting atmosphere, but they also help to enhance the metal energy of your home. Check out our design boards here for inspiration on incorporating the metal and earth colors into your home.

Make Space for Fresh Energy to Flow

6. Physically declutter anything is no longer serving you

Picture
Fall is an indication that  the year is starting to wind down. We’re in the last quarter of the year so this is  the perfect time to leave behind anything that isn't helping you reach your goals. A great way to begin is by decluttering your physical space - which is often the first step in a feng shui consultation. (Well talk about mental clutter a bit later in this blog). Decluttering your physical space allows the energy to flow more freely and not become stagnant. Our free decluttering guide walks you through how to declutter every room in your home.

7. Organize your workspace

Picture
A cluttered and messy office or desk can really weigh you down and make you feel like you’re stuck. That’s why it’s so important to declutter your office and desk and get rid of any old business files, notebooks, and all those pens that are out of ink! Not only will it give you more space to work with, but it will also help you to feel like you’re ready to take command of your future. The ‘command position’ is the ideal layout for a workspace in feng shui, and means your desk is situated in a way that gives you the most control over your environment. Working in a well-organized and comfortable workspace can help you to be more productive and motivated.

8. Complete unfinished projects

Picture
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that focuses on the balance of energy in the environment around us. When our physical environment is in balance, our mental and emotional states can be better balanced as well. The energy of the fall is about clarity and the metal element is associated with completion. One way to create clarity and balance is to finish any projects that need to be completed. If you've started a project and have changed your mind about finishing it, it's best to simply let it go.

Time for Some Mental Decluttering

In feng shui, fall is associated with the metal element, which encourages us to slow down and reflect inward. This season is yin in nature, meaning we receive less light and energy, making it the perfect time to focus on creativity, communication, and inspiration.

Just as the trees are dropping their leaves, this is an ideal time for us to release and let go of things that no longer serve us, too. These can be anything from negative mindsets, unhealthy habits, or relationships. Now is also a great opportunity to tap into our inner wisdom. Taking a few moments each day to pause and think about your life, your goals, and your wellbeing can be a powerful way to improve your focus and make sure you're staying on the right track.

9. Journal

Journaling can be a helpful practice if you're looking to better understand yourself and your emotions. Writing in a journal allows you to document your thoughts and feelings, track your progress and goals, and even create a space to express creativity. It is an incredibly powerful tool for self-discovery and growth and since this season is all about clarity, why not give it a try?

10. Deep breathing meditation

Picture
According to feng shui, autumn is associated with the lungs so it is important to take steps to strengthen them. A great way to do this is to practice deep breathing meditations which can help to enhance lung health and improve overall well being. Meditation is also a powerful way to combat stress, achieve inner tranquility, and gain insight into our lives. Take some time to relax and absorb the tranquil energy of the autumn season and connect with your inner-self. It is also well known that meditating regularly can open up your creative side, which fits perfectly with the energy of the fall.

11. Release the old - scream and cry it out!

We all have mindsets, beliefs and thoughts that hold us back from living our fullest potential. It can be easy to get stuck in old patterns and beliefs that are no longer serving us. In order to create space for growth, it is important to recognize when it’s time to release these old mindsets and make room for something new. Take some time to let them go, even if that means you need to cry and scream or laugh out loud. Consider it part of your overall decluttering process!

12. Remind yourself of how fortunate you are.

Picture
We all have days where life can seem overwhelming or difficult. This season, especially, can sometimes feel depressing for some people, particularly those who experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It's important to remember that despite struggles and setbacks, we're actually quite fortunate. Taking the time to appreciate the good things in life on a daily basis can help remind us of how lucky we are and give us a much-needed boost of positive energy. Begin to appreciate the little things in life on a daily basis to remind yourself every day of how fortunate you are.

Fall is a beautiful and special time of the year. It is the season between the lively energy of summer and the quieter energy of winter, so it is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy the gentle transition. As the temperatures drop and the days get shorter, appreciate the natural cycle and the balance between yin and yang. Take a few moments to pause and get ready to enjoy the beauty of fall and take advantage of the seasonal transition to create balance, peace, and harmony in your life.
